History :

Richmond, Minnesota, is a small city nestled in Stearns County, part of the scenic "Land of 10,000 Lakes." Its roots trace back to the mid-1800s, when European settlers—primarily German Catholics—began moving into central Minnesota, drawn by fertile farmland and abundant natural resources. The area that would become Richmond was originally part of the township of Munson.

The community began to take shape with the arrival of the railroad in the 1880s, which spurred growth and helped the town become a local hub for agriculture and trade. In 1890, Richmond was officially incorporated as a village. The town's early economy was based on farming, milling, and dairy production, supported by the rich farmland of the Sauk River Valley.

Over the 20th century, Richmond retained its small-town character, marked by a strong sense of community and cultural pride. Local traditions like church festivals and summer parades became mainstays of civic life. The city is also known as the western gateway to the popular Chain of Lakes, a series of connected lakes that attract boaters, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts, especially during the summer.

Today, Richmond blends its agricultural heritage with a growing interest in tourism and small business development. It remains a close-knit community where history, family, and nature all play central roles in everyday life.
